Manchester United legend Gary Neville has offered his take on who in European football could replace Michael Carrick.

One tweeter asked the Sky Sports pundit his realistic choice for who the Red Devils could sign to replace Carrick when the 35-year-old calls it a day.

Neville named Bayern Munich’s Xabi Alonso and Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets as potential Carrick replacements, along with Real Madrid pair Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Former Liverpool midfielder Alonso is the same age as Carrick, while Busquets (28) has been an essential cog in the Barca machine for many years.

United had been heavily linked with Germany midfielder Kroos (26) before his move to Madrid while Modric (31) recently signed a contract extension with the Galacticos until 2020.
